1. The adjustable range of performance is large.
Many physical and mechanical performance indexes can be changed within a certain range through the selection of raw materials and the adjustment of the formula, so as to meet the different requirements of users on product performance. For example, hardness is often an important indicator of products for users. Polyurethane elastomers can be made into soft printing cots with Shore A hardness of about 20 and hard steel rolling cots with Shore D hardness of more than 70, which is difficult for common elastomer materials to do. Polyurethane elastomer is a polar polymer material composed of many flexible segments and rigid segments. As the proportion of rigid segments increases and the density of polar groups increases, the original strength and hardness of the elastomer will increase accordingly.
2. Excellent wear resistance
Especially in the presence of wetting media such as water and oil, its wear resistance is often several to dozens times that of ordinary rubber materials. Although metal materials such as steel and iron are hard, they are not necessarily wear-resistant. For example, in the large-scale water pump in the Yellow River irrigation area, the metal mouth ring and the protective ring of its flow-through parts are washed by a large amount of silt, which will seriously wear out and leak water in less than a few hundred hours. However, the mouth ring and the protective ring (cyclone) coated with polyurethane elastomer are still not worn after continuous operation for 1800 hours. Other materials such as rubber roller of rice husker, sieve plate of vibrating screen for coal preparation, track of sports ground, dynamic oil sealing ring for crane forklift, elevator wheel and roller skate wheel, polyurethane solid tire, copier and screen printing scraper, etc. are also suitable for polyurethane elastomer. One point to be mentioned here is that a small amount of lubricants such as aluminum disulfide, graphite or silicone oil can be added to this kind of polyurethane elastomer in order to improve the friction coefficient of polyurethane elastomer with medium and low hardness and improve the wear resistance under load.
3. Various processing methods and wide applicability
Pouring polyurethane elastomer can be molded by plastication, mixing and vulcanization (MPU) like common rubber. It can also be made into liquid rubber and molded by casting or spraying, potting and centrifugal molding (CPU). It can also be made into granular materials, which, like common plastics, are molded by injection, extrusion, calendering, blow molding and other processes (TPU). Molded or injection molded parts, within a certain range of hardness, can also be cut, grinding, drilling and other mechanical processing. Due to the diversity of processing, the applicability of polyurethane elastomer is very extensive and its application field is continuously expanding.
4. Wide range of characteristics and applications
Oil resistance, ozone resistance, aging resistance, radiation resistance, low temperature resistance, good sound permeability, strong adhesion, excellent biocompatibility and blood compatibility are the reasons why polyurethane elastomers are widely used in military industry, aerospace, acoustics, biology and other fields.
Improving high temperature resistance and adding calcium carbonate and silica are the disadvantages of polyurethane elastomer, but casting polyurethane elastomer is not perfect, its main disadvantages are:
1) The internal heat is large, and the normal use temperature range for high temperature resistance is -40~120℃. If long-term action is required under high frequency oscillation conditions or high temperature conditions, corresponding modification measures must be taken in structural design or formula.
2) Under certain temperature, alcohol, acid and ketone will swell and degrade polyurethane elastomer, while solvents such as chloroform, dichloromethane, dimethylformamide and trichloroethylene will swell polyurethane elastomer under normal temperature.
3) Its waste recycling is an international problem, and it is also a big problem to environmental pollution, because no country can tackle the problem in the world.
